In MÜNSTER, I began studying law and economics at the same time, because I couldn’t decide which I liked BETTER. After realising that I didn’t like either of them, I moved to HAMBURG and did something meaningful at a renowned ADVERTISING AGENCY: I trained as an advertising manager.
I found my PASSION in the „MOVING IMAGES“ department, the department that produces cinematic communication for the in-house CREATIVE DEPARTMENT, consulting and clients. I then took it a step further and moved into FILM PRODUCTION – I remain grateful to TONY PETERSEN to this day for teaching me how to think in a goal-oriented way. This was followed by two or three roles, which taught me, amongst other things, that one should put the truly IMPORTANT things down in writing.
I founded my own film production company, BLACK PICTURES; I still love WALTER SCHÖNAUER’s corporate identity to this day. After a few years, I got to know JÖRG BITTEL better. We liked each other, we respected each other, and he wanted to bring me on board. I hesitated; I didn’t want to give up my COMPANY. At Christmas, he wrote me one of the most extraordinary letters I’ve ever received. It had absolutely nothing to do with business, but was all about us and HUMANITY.
And so began my time at MARKENFILM. I learnt a great, great, great deal there and worked even harder. We spent almost 15 years together, with many extraordinary projects and encounters all over the world.
In the 5 or 6 years that followed, I helped production companies to refine their BUSINESS MODELS, sharpen their PORTFOLIO, professionalise their production departments and build up a specific DIRECTORS’ ROSTER.
Over the last four years, I have headed up production at REKORDER and helped to develop its portfolio, as well as rebuilding the German operations for HAMLET.TV (Brussels, Paris, Shanghai, Berlin, Hamburg) and developing both LOCATIONS.
I make no distinction between large or small TASKS – my COMMITMENT to the JOB is always equally strong.
The common thread running through all these projects has always been the same: bringing the right PEOPLE together at the right TIME and in the right PLACE. In doing so, I have managed to make OPERATIONS and PROJECT MANAGEMENT of any size and complexity appear as effortless from start to finish as they rarely are in reality.
I have built TRUST on all sides and assembled, developed, led and motivated TEAMS of between 4 and 400 people to deliver their BEST PERFORMANCE – without it turning into a COMPETITION for anyone involved.
Today, business models are FLEXIBLE and DYNAMIC and no cobbler sticks to his last. Agencies come up with PRODUCTS, sell them and found start-ups. COMPANIES design and produce their CAMPAIGNS themselves and their own EDITORS deliver content. PRODUCERS no longer just produce the IDEAS of others, but have some of their own. They are involved in the DEVELOPMENT of COMMUNICATION at earlier stages.
TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE has always been only as good as the PEOPLE who work with it. This applies to every new TOOL, every new SYSTEM and, today more than ever, to the ubiquitous AI.
For TECHNOLOGY can do a great deal, but it does not decide what is truly GOOD, USEFUL or even MEANINGFUL. That remains a MATTER FOR HUMAN BEINGS. After all these years, I have been professionally trained in this – through PROCESS RELIABILITY, EVALUATION SKILLS, social and emotional DEPTH, and a very good understanding of how to CLASSIFY things correctly. And because technology is constantly changing, I practise this anew every day.
I have mainly worked in the automotive, food, beauty, technology, pet food, finance, pharmaceuticals and retail sectors – for all the well-known BRANDS and advertising agencies.
Over the years, I have worked on several hundred PROJECTS:
